An Abbotsford man has been charged with multiple offences after police discovered a stash of guns, drugs and cash while responding to a marijuana grow rip.
Abbotsford Police responded to a report around 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 of three men trying to break into a residence in the 32300 block of Cordova Avenue, said Const. Ian MacDonald.
While searching for possible victims or suspects, police discovered a semi-automatic weapon with a high-capacity magazine, a loaded handgun, more than 600 pills believed to be ecstasy, $9,000 cash and 160 pot plants.
Investigators believe the home invasion suspects, who weren’t located, were attempting to steal the illegal stockpile in the house.
The bust illustrates why police appreciate the public contacting them to report suspicious behaviour, said MacDonald.
“We’re confident if the third party hadn’t called us, the person responsible for the home wouldn’t have.”
The man responsible for the property arrived on scene while police were at the home. He was “not terribly cooperative” with investigators.
Sarjinder Manhas, 32, is charged with nine weapons offences, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of production.
He was released on $20,000 bail and is next expected to appear in Abbotsford provincial court on Nov. 12.
