‘Virtual’ installation
When the University of the Fraser Valley installs its fifth president and second vice-chancellor this Friday, it will be the first in Canada to do so “virtually.”
Dr. Mark Evered, who has been in the role since July 1, will be officially installed in the university’s performance theatre in Chilliwack. The intimate ceremony will be webcast live across campuses, across the country, and internationally.
Traditionally, university administrators, academic colleagues, family, and friends travel vast distances to be present at ceremonies like these. Dozens of university representatives don their formal robes and sit on a stage in a large hall, awaiting their turn to present a printed greeting to the newly installed president and vice-chancellor and perhaps say a few words.
Evered considered the current state of the economy and UFV’s commitment to be a “green” university, and made the decision to web-stream the ceremony.
Log on this Friday, Oct. 23, from 1:30-3 p.m. To RSVP for the online event or to test your connection in advance, visit www.ufv.ca/newU
