Two young Abbotsford men were rescued from Sumas Mountain by police, and search and rescue over the weekend.

Police got a call around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday from the men, aged 17 and 20 years old, who said they were lost on Sumas Mountain, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

They told police they believed they were in an area commonly referred to as Centennial Trail.

Four officers, who were in cell phone contact with the men, attended, but determined the pair were off the defined trail and at the top of a steep incline.

Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue were called out, and members located the two men and brought them out to safety.

It appeared the two hikers were about three kilometres off any definable trail, said MacDonald.

“Obviously, they brought communication devices, flashlights and appropriate gear, but scaling that area at that [late] time of day invites risk.”
