The Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre looks after the environment while it cares for patients.
That’s the word from Health Services Minister Kevin Falcon, announcing the building has been given LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its design and construction.
LEED buildings are designed to conserve natural resources, create a healthier environment for occupants and reduce both landfill waste and greenhouse gases. For more information see www.cagbc.org/leed/systems/index.htm.
OLD YALE ROAD WORK
The City of Abbotsford has awarded a $2.8-million contract to improve a section of Old Yale Road, between Marshall Road and Dina Place in the east of the city. The project is aimed at handling a predicted increase in traffic in that area of town in coming years. The work will include road widening, and installing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm and sanitary sewer, water mains, and bike lanes in both directions. Marv’s Excavating was handed the city contract for the project.
OFFICER ASSAULTED
An Abbotsford man has been charged after he was arrested in a stolen truck and allegedly spat in the face of a police officer on Sunday night. William McMeekin, 29, of Abbotsford has been charged with assaulting a police officer, uttering threats and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
McMeekin was arrested following an investigation by the Langley RCMP of a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of 32 Avenue and 200 Street just after 7 p.m. Jamie Dawes, 33, of Burnaby was also arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
