The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) has approved an application to remove 26 acres of land on Lougheed Highway from the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The ALC approved the application submitted by property owner Kalvan Gill this month, following a majority vote by Mission council in favour of the application.

The property is located at 31380 Lougheed Hwy., at the corner of Nelson Street at the entrance to Silver Creek Industrial Park, and will provide flat, serviceable land for industrial development.

The ALC’s decision to allow the property to be removed from the ALR is contingent on Gill purchasing another piece of land in the Fraser Valley to be included in the ALR.

Mayor James Atebe said it is important to recognize a need for balance between agricultural and industrial or commercial land.
