Students were evacuated from a wing at Abbotsford Collegiate after a chemistry experiment went awry Tuesday morning.
Three students were attended to by paramedics and given oxygen after complaining of nausea, said Dave Stephen, Abbotsford school district communication manager.
They are expected to recover and were not transported to hospital.
A chemistry 11 class in the S-wing of the school was conducting a standard water and acid experiment just before 11 a.m. when there was an unexpected reaction, said Stephen.
"It caused a fair amount of vapour, and as a precaution the teacher evacuated the kids from the classroom."
Other classes in the affected wing, about 60 students, were also evacuated and the fire department attended to access the small amount of liquid that spilled onto a lab table.
The district will be working with Abbotsford Fire Rescue to determine what might have caused the unexpected reaction, said Stephen.
The S-wing at Abby Collegiate remained closed for a short while, with students being shifted to available classrooms, the gym or library until an an environmental assessment firm checked air quality in the building.
The all clear was given around around 1 p.m. and classes resumed as normal.
