Shots fired at house in Abbotsford

Police continue to investigate after a house on Hamon Drive was shot up on Thursday morning, seemingly by a person who had failed to rip off the marijuana grow-op planted inside.
Police said yesterday (Friday) that after searching the property in the 34700 block of Hamon, close to Delair Road, they discovered a marijuana grow operation of between 400 and 700 plants.
Police had been called just before 5 a.m. on Thursday morning, after a number of residents reported hearing gun shots.
Officers arrived on scene to survey the area. They found more than a half dozen shell casings outside the house on Hamon. No gun was recovered, and nobody was injured.
A man who was attempting to leave the home was taken into custody by police.
Speaking yesterday, Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the 29-year-old man – whom he described as having a criminal history linked to violence and drugs – had not been cooperative when questioned.
He said police are assuming he was inside the house during the attempted “grow-rip.”
Police do not believe there was a confrontation between the man in custody and the person who fired the shots, and whoever shot at the house likely did so as he or she was leaving the scene. Not all shots hit the house, said MacDonald, with some striking a nearby retaining wall.
“It was not so much a confrontation as a failed attempt to gain entry,” said MacDonald.
Police have no descriptions of possible suspects or a possible suspect vehicle.
