A second local barn fire within a week occurred in the Bradner area on Monday evening.

The Abbotsford fire department was called out to a farm located at 6055 Beatty Street just east of Bradner Road at 4:30 p.m., said Dept. Fire Chief Mike Helmer.

Fire crews arrived to find an old, unused milking barn engulfed in flames.

The fire had also spread to two nearby outbuildings, but firefighters were able to save the structures.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire investigators will look at power sources to the building, said Helmer.

The barn, which measured around 70 by 90 feet, was uninsured. To replace it could cost up to $200,000, Helmer said.

Monday’s fire was within a kilometre of a blaze at a mushroom farm on 58 Avenue on Thursday, which destroyed two large composting barns and caused millions of dollars in damage.

Helmer said both fires are still under investigation, but are not believed suspicious or linked in any way.
