Abbotsford residents can go back to washing their cars, hosing down their driveways and sprinkling their lawns, starting on Tuesday.

That’s when the City of Abbotsford lifts the watering ban that has been in place since July 28 to conserve water during the hot dry weather.

Ron Hintsche, the acting general manager for development services (the department that handles water-related bylaw complaints), said there is no longer any danger of a water shortage.

“We’ve conserved enough that we’re comfortable going ahead (with lifting the ban),” he said.

He said bylaw officers issued 526 warnings to people violating the ban, and only one $100 fine was given for a repeat violation. Most people were simply unaware that the ban was in place, Hintsche said.

Regular sprinkling regulations return on Tuesday. Lawns may be watered only from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays for even-numbered addresses, and on Thursdays and Sundays for odd-numbered.
