CYCLIST KILLED
A 39-year-old male cyclist from Abbotsford was pronounced dead at hospital Tuesday
morning following a collision with a car on Maclure Road near Babich Street.
Abbotsford Police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald said the cyclist, who was travelling west at about 5 a.m., was hit by a Pontiac Sunfire headed in the same direction.
He said the man was not
wearing a helmet and did not have reflectors on his bike.
It was raining and dark at the time of the accident, and
visibility was poor.
The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
housing starts still far off
Housing starts in Abbotsford continue to be far behind the same period in 2008.
According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, year-to-date starts for single family homes, townhouses and apartments are down by 82 per cent compared to the January to July period last year. The downward trend is
mirrored in other Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
cities. Surrey is reportedly down by 78 per cent, Vancouver by 73 per cent, Chilliwack by 68 per cent, Richmond by 67 per cent and Langley by six per cent.
LIQUOR LICENCE
The Station House Bar and Grill has been granted a liquor primary licence by the City of Abbotsford. The business at 3122 Station Rd. currently
operates a food primary business with a 156-seat capacity. The application by the Station House was the first to have gone to council since city hall in June scrapped its requirement to have such the process go to a public referendum.
Station Road is located close to the Langley border at 276 Street, just south of the Fraser Highway.
