Abbotsford Police are investigating after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted by a man who forced his way into her apartment via her balcony early Tuesday morning.

Officers arrived to the apartment complex in the 33200 block of Robertson Avenue just after 4 a.m., said Const. Ian MacDonald.

The woman, who is in her early 20s, told officers she heard a noise, and went to investigate when a man forced his way into her suite and assaulted her.

A police dog was brought in to conduct a search but was unable to track anything down.

More specifics about the attack will emerge after detectives get the opportunity to do a detailed interview the young woman who is currently in hospital, said MacDonald.

According to a preliminary description, the suspect is described as a heavy-set Caucasian male in his 30s about five feet 10 inches tall, and wearing a white t-shirt and shorts.
