Headed to trial:

Two men charged after a series of large scale marijuana grow operations were discovered in Abbotsford’s industrial district are headed to trial.

Randy Terezakis, 28, and Paul Yates, 34, were charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking and production of a controlled substance. Abbotsford police discovered 1,838 plants and two hydro bypasses in an industrial unit at 30970 Wheel Ave. in March 2008. The Wheel Avenue address was one of several industrial units busted.

Investigators discovered an assault weapon, a shotgun and two handguns at the home, and more than 2,000 pot plants and 40 pounds of dried marijuana at another industrial unit raided on Peardonville Road.

Youth affected:

The H1N1 flu virus that spread out of Mexico this spring has shown a preference for younger people, with those aged five to 24 making up a larger proportion of cases.

Dr. Perry Kendall, B.C.’s provincial health officer, expects that there will be a surge of cases when school resumes in September.
