A young Aldergrove man who committed a series of robberies for drugs has been convicted and sentenced.
Matthew Taylor, 20, appeared in Surrey Provincial Court and was found guilty of four counts of robbery. Taylor was sentenced to 21 months, less a day, of jail time and three years of probation following his release.
Taylor robbed four pharmacies in the Aldergrove area between March 2 and April 27. In each incident, Taylor produced a replica firearm and demanded the prescription drug, OxyContin.
Taylor has been in custody since May 5, when he was arrested by Abbotsford Police for robbing an Abbotsford pharmacy that day.
Trial ordered
An Abbotsford man charged with drunk driving in connection with the death of a young mom has been ordered to stand trial.
David Shawn Dickey is facing four charges including impaired driving causing death and failure to stop at an accident causing bodily harm.
The charge was originally laid in connection with the death of 25-year-old Marilynn Denise Miller, who was struck by a truck in a hit and run on Townline Road in March 2007.
Dickey is due in Chilliwack Supreme Court to fix a date for trial July 27.
Space station overhead
Sky watchers are being treated to good views of the International Space Station this month.
The ISS – with New Westminster-born Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk aboard for a six-month mission – will sometimes be the brightest object as it zips across the sky.
