An Abbotsford man managed to escape harm after being targeted in a drive-by shooting Sunday morning.
The 31-year-old was walking along Maclure Road just west of Clearbrook around 9 a.m. when a dark pickup truck approached him and opened fire, said Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.
As the victim fled, police started to get multiple 911 calls from residents who reported hearing four to six shots fired.
Officers located the man who was uninjured but shaken by the incident.
“He was not hit but was obviously very traumatized,” said MacDonald.
The fact shots were fired in a very public setting is alarming, he added.
“We are concerned because it took place in a public place. We’re very cognizant that everybody’s safety was at risk.”
The shooting is not believed to be random, but investigators are still working to determine if it’s gang-related.
“We’re still piecing together the motive and identity of the shooter.
“We’re not ruling out it’s gang-related, but it’s impossible to say at this stage.”
While police have had contact with the victim previously, he was not prominent on their radar.
“I wouldn’t say his previous dealings with police are alarming,” said MacDonald.
