Abbotsford federal candidates debate hot issues

Matsqui Centennial Auditorium brimmed with political opinion and back-biting Wednesday night for an Abbotsford federal all-candidates meeting presented by Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.

Questions relating to abortion, justice, the economy, marijuana legalization, the homeless, crime and the environment dominated some intense discussions as a crowd of 250 offered either booed, applauded or heckled candidates.

Participating in the question and answer session moderated by lawyer Douglas MacAdams were Conservative incumbent Ed Fast, Liberal Dr. Lionel Traverse, Green Party represenative Karen Durant, Bonnie Rai of the NDP and Marijuana Party candidate Tim Felger.

Questions were either submitted by the audience, prepared by the Abbotsford Chamber, offered at a live mike or asked by a four-member panel that included members of the local media.

For full coverage of Wednesday night's all-candidates meeting, stay tuned to this website and read Saturday's edition of the Abbotsford News.

Video coverage of the event will also be posted.
