Abbotsford Police are not confirming media reports alleging that the 40-year-old man shot dead at his home on Thursday at 1432 Kipling Street was a member of the United Nations (UN) Gang.

Police say the murdered man was associated with organized crime and gang activity, but Abbotsford Police Const. Casey Vinet said Monday he could not confirm any more details at this point.

An autopsy was scheduled Monday to determine cause of death, and police anticipate releasing more details and his name shortly.

The man was assassinated on the steps of his front doorway about 10:40 p.m. Witnesses in the Kipling area reported seeing a silver SUV in the neighbourhood about the time he was gunned down.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old Langley man was killed in a drive-by shooting as he was driving an SUV on Kingsway Street in Burnaby on Friday evening. Another man and a 17-year-old girl in an accompanying vehicle were also shot at and injured.

There has been media speculation that Friday’s murder may be retaliation for Thursday’s killing in Abbotsford.

Vinet said he couldn’t confirm whether the two murders are linked, but he assured the public the police are investigating and working hard to try to gather evidence with the goal of arresting the perpetrators.

The public has valid reasons to be concerned, he said, however, the killing of the 40-year-old man in Abbotsford was not random, but targeted.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is asked to please call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-543- 9217 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-822- 8477.
