Are trends really worth it

It’s finally here! It’s fall fashion time! For fashionistas, divas and stylist wannabes alike, it’s the time of the year when magazines publish their most ad-packed and picture-filled editions of the year. I’m always fascinated by the craziness of what the marketing gurus and designers of the world have created. It’s the time for predictions of the hottest trends and a preview of the new, up-and-coming must-haves.

It’s also a time for new beauty products to appear and collections of makeup that range from the practical to the bizarre. We’re lucky enough to be able to learn from the experiments of product testers and to read about the new treatments that may or may not be worth our hard-earned money.

The question is, how do any of these new trends translate from the runway and pages of a fashion magazine into your everyday life? And at the end of the day, are they worth it?

As much as I enjoy finding out what some designers and makeup artists have predicted, I don’t often feel like what I’m seeing is especially new. “Navy is the New Black” and “The Smoky Eye Reinvented” are titles that have lost their lustre for me.

While matte skin is a change from the dewy freshness of most recent makeup looks, it’s not new or all that exciting. And while fuchsia is the latest shade that screams youth, I have yet to see a woman over 20 wear it and still look classy and sophisticated.

Each woman is unique and beautiful and many of you know already what does or does not work on any given day. You are a confident woman who knows that no matter how many people tell you that red is hot and trendy, you will eternally swear by pink (because that’s what works for you).

You know that your skin tends to be dry, so powder foundation is the last option you’ll look at.

You realize that your eyes are in desperate need of some brightening, but disco glitter on your eyelids will never be the trick you turn to.

You know that you are your own person who may need a little help with some basics or a slight revamping of your current look, but you are not a walking experiment who needs to define yourself by having a camera-ready look at all times.

Your contagious personality, lust for life and glowing smile are the best accessories of the season, and no matter how many must-haves are screaming at you from the closest billboard, shopping aisle, or magazine page, you can take note and appreciate the creativity but keep on walking, happy in your own beautiful skin.
