National award for ‘Bigs’

The local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency has received a national leadership award.
The agency – which serves Abbotsford, Mission and Ridge-Meadows – is the recipient of the National Leadership Excellence Award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
The award recognizes agencies that have demonstrated exemplary leadership related to program innovation, board leadership, agency-to-agency support, marketing achievement, innovative partnerships and/or staff team development.
“We are delighted that our agency was chosen for its leadership in the area of media partnerships, program innovation and community building,” said David Sheach, executive director of the local Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The agency provides more than 340 children a variety of mentoring programs, including Community Based Mentoring, Teen Mentoring, In School Mentoring, Friends for Youth, Seniors’ Mentoring and Kids ’n’ Kops.
It is one of 140 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across Canada.
