A Christmas tradition is coming to Abbotsford in late November as Abbotsford conductor David Rushton directs the Gloria Dei Chorale, soloists, and the Canada West Chamber orchestra in a performance of Handel’s Messiah.

The show is set for Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Bakerview Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road.

The Gloria Dei Chorale, founded in 1954, began as a choir of the Christian Reformed Church of New Westminster but evolved over the years to become a thriving 65-voice community choir comprised of members from throughout the lower mainland.

David Rushton is in his second season as conductor and musical director of the choir. He is a former director of the Fraser Valley Symphony (1988-1998) and is the senior professor of music at Trinity Western University.

In addition to members of the Canada West Chamber Orchestra, Rushton is presenting a talented roster of professional soloists for the performances: Alison Nystrom, soprano, Caroline Harder, alto, Ray Harris, tenor and Dale Throness, bass.

Tickets are $15 and are available at House of James, King’s Music, Bakerview Church, from choir members, and at the door.
