Russell Braun, the celebrated Canadian operatic baritone, is coming to Abbotsford for a concert in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.

The show is a presentation of the Valley Concert Society and takes place Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Braun was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1965 and is the son of Canadian baritone Victor Braun. Russell spent his childhood and early teens in Cologne, and was exposed to music at an early age.

He immigrated to Toronto in 1982 with his mother, Elaine Schwing-Braun, (mezzo soprano, coach at the Royal Conservatory).

In 1982 Russell began studying piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music while ushering evenings at Roy Thomson Hall. He joined the Canadian Opera Company in 1987 and began studying voice. He was cast in the role of Figaro in the company’s 1992 production of Rossini’s Barber of Seville.

The performance was a critical success and marked the beginning of his operatic career.

Tickets to the concert are available for $25, Call 604-859-5192 for information.
