Oct. 29

The Abbotsford Arts Council is presenting an exhibit by Rita Carrington which is on now and runs until Nov. 18 at the Kariton Gallery, 2387 Ware Street. Carrington began her craft with southwest images in cross stitch. From there she moved into many different mediums of art. She started painting in her early forties. She enjoys working in oils but lately has become more fascinated with watercolour. For information call 604-852-9358.

Nov. 3

Matthew Good and his Band are coming to Abbotsford on Nov. 3 at the Abbey Arts Centre. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Saturday for $39.50. They are available at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Nov. 5

A new art exhibit will open on Nov. 5 in the Grotto of the Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford. The Forgotten Airmen is by Michael DesMazes, a local historian, who is documenting the history of the Air Force flight training schools located at the Abbotsford Airfield and Boundary Bay. His exhibit will focus on members of the Air Force lost during training at Abbotsford and include photographs of the lost airmen, artifacts and uniforms related to the Air Force and local airfield.

Nov. 6

Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist Deanna Bowen will be in Abbotsford on Nov. 6 to talk about her exhibit Stories To Pass On. The show is currently on display in the Great Hall at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford. The talk, set for 7 p.m. is a multi-media exhibition comprised of two installation works: Gospel (2008) and Shadow on the Prairie (2009). The talk will be followed by a reception with the artist at 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 604-864-8087.

Nov. 7

The annual Fall Down Dance, takes place Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Jubilee Community Club (7999 Bradner Rd.) This is a special night of music and dancing with Juno Award winning artist Jerry Doucette. Doucette has toured with some of the biggest names in the business and has both gold and platinum albums under his belt. Tickets are $25 and are available at the Bradner Store (5440 Bradner Rd). Nov. 13

Corb Lund and special guest Ridley Bent will perform on Nov. 13 at the Showbarn in the Abbotsford Fairgrounds (32470 Haida Ave.) at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. Corb Lund has already impressed listeners and critics: He has been named Roots Artist of the Year by the Canadian Country Music Association for the last five years running and was again nominated this year.

Nov. 13

Alan Jackson is coming to the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre on Nov. 13. The country music superstar will wow the audience with his many hits. As a songwriter, Jackson has always been tricky to classify. His work is a hybrid of Nashville professionalism and personal expressiveness. Visit www.abbotsfordcentre.ca.

Nov. 22

ZZ Top is bringing its hard-rocking sound to Abbotsford on Nov. 22. This American rock trio hailing from Houston, Texas was formed in late 1969 by Billy Gibbons (lead vocals and lead guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, and keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums). ZZ Top have been together for four decades and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Nov. 28

Extreme Ice Racing is coming to Abbotsford on Nov. 28 at the AESC. Often described as one of the roughest, most dangerous sports in the world, professional ice racing demands riders to wear more padding and protective gear than almost any other sport. Virtually every inch of the rider is covered by custom fabricated leather or Kevlar attire and state-of-the-art high-tech plastic/carbon fiber protection. The world’s best ice racers will take part in the 34th annual World Championship Ice Racing Series. Tickets are available at the venue box office.

There may be no snow yet, but you know that the merry season is truly under way when Michelle Wright comes to town to remind us all what Christmas is really about. Wright and her I’m Dreaming of a Wright Christmas tour takes place on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Clarke Theatre in Mission. I’m Dreaming of a Wright Christmas is becoming an annual tradition. This is the seventh year that Wright will be bringing her blend of traditional seasonal carols, some of her favourite Christmas music, some personal holiday reminiscences, some current material, and some surprises, too. Holiday Festival On Ice With The Canadian Tenors takes place Dec, 4 at the AESC. Holiday Festival on Ice celebrates the spirit of the holidays with world-renowned skaters showcasing their talents in individual holiday-themed routines as well as ensemble numbers. 2009’s holiday event will feature memorable performances by Jeffrey Buttle, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, plus eight time British Champion Steven Cousins, Recently added to the line up is world famous Kurt Browning.
