One of the biggest voices on the country music scene will make a stop in Abbotsford in March.

Reba McEntire is coming to the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on March 18.

McEntire is not your typical country icon. She may have amassed amazing career stats – more than $55 million in album sales, 33 No. 1 hits, two Grammys, seven Country Music Association Awards (CMAs), 15 American Music Awards and more – but she has also found success in three other entertainment sectors.

Her self-titled primetime TV series, Reba, was a top-rated sitcom for six seasons, she received rave reviews for her irresistible performance in Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway, and has experienced success on film.

Still, music is her number one talent.

Strange, the sassy debut single from her latest CD Keep on Loving You, is the fastest-rising solo single and highest solo chart debut of her 33-year music career.

The new album is the follow-up to Reba Duets, which hit No. 1 on both pop and country album charts. Her last 13 studio albums have each received platinum status for reaching 1 million in sales.

“I think it’s a new chapter, I really do,” McEntire says.

“I’m back to only my music. In the last 10 years, I’ve either had TV shows, Broadway or something else going on. Basically this is a time when I can really concentrate and focus on my music.”

The new album is contemporary and relevant, yet still true to her traditional country roots.

“I still go with the same formula I always have. When a song moves me, I will sing it and hopefully it will move you.”

Tickets for this event are expected to sell fast.

“What can you say when one of the queens of country music comes to Abbotsford?” asks Michaella Petrik, director of marketing at the AESC.

“It’s pretty cool and it’s another opportunity for people in Abbotsford to see world-class entertainment in their own backyard.”

McEntire will perform on March 18 at 7:30 p.m. Joining her are special musical guests Crystal Shawanda and Melissa Peterman

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. They are available at the venue box office, by calling 866-977-2372 or online at www.abbotsfordcentre.ca
