It’s official, a trio of “Sharp Dressed Men” are coming to Abbotsford.
Global Spectrum announced on Monday night that ZZ Top will be rocking the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on Nov. 22
“This is a huge one for Abbotsford,” says Michaella Petrik, director of marketing at the AESC.
“The phones have been ringing constantly since we made the announcement.”
Tickets don’t go on sale until Friday, but Petrik expects them to disappear fast.
ZZ Top is an American rock trio hailing from Houston, Texas and was formed in late 1969 by Billy Gibbons (lead vocals and lead guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass and keyboards) and Frank Beard (drums).
ZZ Top have been together for four decades and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 along with ranking number 44 on VH1 cable’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
The band holds the distinction of being among the few rock bands still composed of its original recording members for nearly 40 years
Nearly as well-known as their music is the group’s biker-frontiersmen image: ZZ Top is almost always pictured wearing sunglasses (a nod to their 1979 song “Cheap Sunglasses”), Gibbons and Hill (the singing front men) wearing similar if not matching black clothing (usually biker leathers), black cowboy hats or ball caps. Both Gibbons and Hill are noted for their trademark chest-length beards (in spite of his own surname, drummer Beard almost always sports just a trim mustache).
“This facility has the ability to host big shows like this and obviously is already impressing promoters. And it’s only going to get better,” says Petrik who added that more show announcements will be coming up in October and November.
Joining ZZ Top on their tour is multiple Juno and CCMA award winner Charlie Major.
Charlie Major has been a force in country music for over two decades. His debut album The Other Side is the only album in Canadian history to have six number one songs.
The Nov. 22 show will start at 7:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. They are available online at www.abbotsfordcentre.ca, by phone at 866-977-2372 or at the venue box office. Tickets are $85 and $75.
