At the World Figure Skating Championships in 1988, a young Kurt Browning took the figure skating world by storm as the first skater to ever successfully land a quadruple jump in international competition.

Not bad for a young man hailing from the small town of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

This was the first time that the world began to take notice of Browning’s abilities, it most certainly wouldn’t be the last.

During his illustrious career, Browning went on to win four Canadian Championships and four World Championships, two of which came at a time when skaters were required to perform compulsory figures. Throughout the duration of his career, judges always admired his excellence in stressful situations as well as the athletic, spontaneous, and energetic way in which he skates.

Since retiring from amateur competitive figure skating, Browning has delighted viewers with his annual “Gotta Skate” show as well as his appearances on both the U.S. and Canadian Stars on Ice tours.

Now Browning will dazzle Abbotsford Skating fans as he appears in the Holiday Festival on Ice event on Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m., at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

The show celebrates the spirit of the holidays and features memorable performances by Jeffrey Buttle, Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon, plus eight time British Champion Steven Cousins.
