It’s spookin’ season, and there are plenty of activities in and around Abbotsford to get people in the mood for Halloween. Here are a few of them:
TRICK OR TREAT
Abbotsford Parks, Recreation and Culture holds a Halloween party on Oct. 30 at Exhibition Park, 32470 Haida Drive.
Kids are invited to dress in costume and play games, try the bouncy castle, and take home a treat. Parent participation is required.
The event runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $10.80. Register at 604-850-5536.
It’s a Halloween Extravaganza at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre on Oct. 31.
In-mall trick-or-treating takes place from noon to 2 p.m.
Pirates of the Caribbean: A Magical Adventure Show by Red Medway follows in the centre court at 2 p.m.
Straiton Community Hall (4698 Sumas Mountain Rd.) is the site of a community Halloween party on Oct. 31 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The event includes kids’ games with prizes, a jelly bean count, spot prizes for kids’ costumes, marshmallow roasting, and hot chocolate. Food bank donations are gratefully accepted.

Tanglebank Gardens, 29985 Downes Rd., invites kids to come in costume and enjoy cooking-decorating and “pumpkin head” workshops, starting at 11 a.m.

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
No Code Blue rocks the night on Oct. 30 for a Halloween dance at the Abbotsford District Teachers Association hall, 2570 Cyril St.
This is a fundraiser for the Abbotsford Hospice Society. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available by calling Linda at 604-853-2925 or Caroline at 604-852-6444.
A Halloween dance featuring the band False Creek takes place at Matsqui Community Hall (33676 St. Olaf Ave.).
Tickets are $15, including a snack. They are available at Weymouth Meats or the Matsqui Village branch of Aldergrove Credit Union.

A Halloween dinner and dance on Oct. 31 raises funds for the Mission Seniors’ Activity Centre.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at Kingsway Arms at Cedarbrooke Chateau, 32331 Seventh Ave. The event includes entertainment and a grand prize draw for a flat-screen TV.

HAUNTED HOUSES
Trethewey House Heritage Site (2313 Ware St.) hosts its annual Halloween House on Oct. 30 and 31. A “mildly haunting tour” for children under 10 runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and The Hairy Scary Tour is from 6 to 8 p.m. both days. Cost is $2.50.
A costume contest and carnival take place on Oct. 31, starting at 3 p.m. (children 10 and under) and 5:30 p.m. (11 and older). Cost is $5 per child.

A walk-through Halloween tour and a large pirate ship are part of the fun at the home of Stan and Mary McKay located at Fraser Highway and Lefeuvre Road.
The site is open daily from 6 to 9 p.m. until Halloween. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children, with partial proceeds going to BC Children’s Hospital.
Hogarths Haunted House at 3037 Sandpiper Dr. is open until Oct. 30 from 7 to 10 p.m.
It is also open Oct. 31 from 5 to 11 p.m. The house is open to all ages, and admission is a donation to BC Children’s Hospital.
