MSA Museum Society celebrates its 40th anniversary this month.
In recognition of the event, a complimentary High Tea will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
People are invited to dress in their finest 1920s outfits and enter the costume contest.
They are also invited to sit by the garden and listen to barbershop singers and traditional jazz musicians.
Tea and treats will be served in the food court by celebrity hosts.
Those attending the event may also mingle with Trethewey family characters of old, tour the Trethewey House and the Heritage Gallery, scan through old photo albums, and socialize with dignitaries and other community members who appreciate local history.
Started as a centennial project in 1967, the local Women’s Institutes, persevering to establish an ongoing memory of the community, worked to build the MSA Museum membership and collections despite the perpetual challenge of little available storage space.
Eventually, the MSA artifact and archive collection took over the entire basement of the Abbotsford Library as well as many other sites around the Abbotsford area.
In 1980, the municipal government acquired the Trethewey House on Ware Street and eventually began the restoration to its original state of the 1920s.
In 1983, the main floor of the Trethewey House and the Heritage Gallery was opened to the general public for viewing.
The need for further change became apparent with the completion of The Reach Gallery Museum in 2008.
In spring 2009, the membership of the MSA Museum Society voted to transfer artifacts from the MSA Museum to The Reach Gallery Museum.
Those planning to attend the 40th anniversary celebration are asked to RSVP at 604-853-0313. Trethewey House Heritage Site is located at 2313 Ware St.
