Nominations are being accepted for the third annual Mayor’s Award for the Arts.

Introduced by former mayor Terry Lake, current Mayor Peter Milobar will make the presentation on Jan. 23 at the Kamloops Convention Centre.

The gala evening is a fundraiser for the major cultural components in the city — the Kamloops Art Gallery, Western Canada Theatre and the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.

This year’s category is arts education and nominations will be accepted from the public.

The committee behind the event is looking for an educator who has shown excellence in fostering the arts through arts education.

Other qualifications include being recognized by their peers as an accomplished teacher in their field, have been active in the Kamloops arts community for at least five years and be connected to one of the three organizations benefiting from the fundraising.

Deadline for nominations is Dec. 4. Forms are available online at westerncanadatheatre.bc.ca, at the Kamloops Live Box Office, 1025 Lorne St., the Kamloops Art Gallery, 465 Victoria St. or the Kamloops Symphony office, 3-510 Lorne St.

Tickets for the gala, which will include dinner, live music, a video celebration of the three organizations and a silent auction — along with the award presentation — are $80 plus GST and are available

at the box office or online at

kamloopslive.com.
