Santa arrives in Historic Downtown Abbotsford on Nov. 20 and he’s bringing Mrs. Claus with him.

“It’s a community family tradition that kids from across Abbotsford anticipate eagerly at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting,” says Ingrid Epp, executive director of the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association (ADBA).

“The fanfare and excitement reach a feverish pitch with the sound of the old fire truck horn, the music of the award-winning marching 861 Silverfox Air Cadet Band, flashing lights of the police escort motorcycle and car, and that first glimpse of the season of Santa and Mrs. Claus as they roll up to Santa’s House under the big Christmas tree.”

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Christmas music stage sizzles as MC Curtis Pope of Country 107.1 introduces performances by Aerial Dance & Acro Academy and Dynamic Dance, A&D Music student MIRAJ, Father’s Daughter, young Brook Harris and Sound of Music students Daniel Tan and John Kim.

But that’s not all. The festivities and entertainment spill onto the street with Mr. Flowers delighting youngsters with his seasonal balloon twisting, mascots Rudy the Red Nose and Lister the Lion making new friends, plus fun crafts, face painting, popcorn at the Landmark Christmas Light Tour bus and of course, all donations go to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign, whose team is also selling hot dogs and refreshments.

At 7:15 p.m., watch Abbotsford Mayor George Peary and four-year old Lauren Palmer light up the big Christmas tree at Essendene and West Railway Street.
