Chilliwack’s Great War

The Chilliwack Museum’s new show is entitled Chiliwack’s Great War: at Home and Overseas. The display recalls the events of the time, and honours the memory of those from Chilliwack whose lives were changed forever by the war. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and students, and free for kids 12 and under.

 

Horses through time

Until Sept. 26, photographer and writer Margaret Evans presents an exhibit at the Chilliwack Museum exploring the 50 million year evolution of horses in North America entitled Horses from the Mists of Time.

 

August at the Legion

Branch #4 of the Royal Canadian Legion has a host of events lined up for August. Attend the annual branch picnic on Aug. 17 for a potluck spread and karaoke, or drop by the Ladies Auxiliary cake walk on Aug. 29 at 3 p.m.

 

Dancing at the Legion

Branch #280 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Vedder offers a multitude of live music over the next month with dancing from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Catch Steve Hillis on Aug. 15 and 16, The Misfitz on Aug. 22 and 23, and the ValleyFyre Band on Aug. 29 and 30.

 

Knit and knatter

Looking for a knitting group? The Sardis library hosts a knitting afternoon for all ages on Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome, making it a wonderful place to learn a new skill with the needles. If you get confused, instructional books are only a few shelves away.

 

Teen Games Night

Drop by the Chilliwack library for a plethora of board games and a raucous good time on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your own or join in one already going; there will be plenty of board games on hand, including Zombie Brains, Apples to Apples, and Escalation.

 

Rock the River

Are you looking for some live music on the south side of town? Look no further; Tractorgrease Multimedia introduces the first ever Southside concert series by the Vedder River Bridge on Aug. 14, 21, and 28. The free event features local artists such as Gerald Charlie and the Black Owl Blues, Matt Lowen, and Maggpie. This all-ages, family friendly event starts at 6 p.m. and will wrap up by 9 p.m.

 

Acoustic Emporium

Head down to the Acoustic Emporium on Wellington this Friday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. for short and sweet sets by local electronic artists Teen Daze and My Goal Is Telepathy. Tickets are only $5 and will be available at the door. The show is all ages, and promises a mix of ambient music and electro-pop.

 

Cinema under the stars

The Prospera Credit Union Cinema Under the Stars is back this year Aug. 21 in Chilliwack at Watson Glen Park with Frozen. All movies start at dusk and are free, but

donations will be accepted in support of Success by 6.

 

A touch of Celtic

St. Thomas church hosts the Sky Family on Aug. 28. If you’re in the mood for some Irish dancing, a touch of fiddle, a handful of gospel and a whole lot of Celtic, then this concert is the place to be. Admission is by donation, at a suggested $10 for adults and $5 for children.
