A juried, fibre-art group show called On The Wind breezes in to the arts council's PORTALS gallery between Aug. 12 and Sept. 5.

Wind works — measuring 36- by 18 inches — were made by 20 professional fibre artists from across Western Canada.

Pieces "are created using a variety of techniques from felting, quilting, hand painting, hand stitching, machine embroidery, applique, block printing and so much more, all on fabric," a Cowichan Valley Arts Council release reads.

"The theme of this exhibition prompted me to think of swirling leaves, and how the wind can make such powerful changes to our environment. The noise it makes as it rips through our trees gives us wonder of this element," says fibre-artist Coreen Zerr.

Wind's hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., but closed Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 in PORTALS at the Island Savings Centre. Call CVAC at 250-746-1633.
