Call to Greater Victoria artists: public art wanted for Commercial Alley

The century-old bricks enclosing Commercial Alley will soon be a canvas for one lucky artist’s works.

Applications are now being accepted from artists who want to design and display new work in the alley, which runs between lower Yates Street and Bastion Square.

Artists will be assessed by a panel that includes staff from the City of Victoria, Open Space and the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society.

The successful applicant will receive $1,500 and create work on four four-foot-by-eight-foot plywood panels, which will then be installed on the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society exterior wall. The works will be displayed in the alley from Aug. 9 until February 2015.
