Vancouver's visual effects studio Sony Pictures Imageworks helped bring 'Spider-Man 2' and its villain, Electro, to life. The superhero blockbuster raked in over $92 million in its opening weekend.

"The first take that the artist does, the first time he creates an image of Electro in Times Square, it's not gonna look that good, because it's the first sketch they do," said visual effects supervisor Jerome Chen, detailing the amount of painstaking work it takes an artist to create what he needs to for a film like Spider-Man. "And maybe he needs 100 attempts before he gets that shot looking good enough to be put in a movie."

The film stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

Jamie Foxx stars as Electro.
