Tina Turner tribute is ‘simply the best’
Love’s going to have a lot to do with it as Luisa Marshall brings her tribute to Tina Turner to the Langford Legion.
Marshall’s love for Turner and her music started as a youth, when her sister forced her to watch a concert. When she realized she could make a living impersonating the singer she never looked back.
“It’s been my bread and butter for the longest time,” Marshall said. “It’s much more of her being inspirational to a lot of people. I’m really having a lot of fun.”
Now she brings all of Turner’s hits to adoring fans, including “Private Dancer,” “The Best” and “What’s Love Got to do With It.”
Marshall lives in Vancouver, but often plays public shows and corporate events on the Island. Her current tour includes five stops over here, the last of which is the Langford show.
The performance will also see Marshall pay tribute to other female performers such as Lady Gaga, Shania Twain, Etta James and Amy Winehouse.
She won’t be doing full costume changes for each performer with this stripped-down version of her performance, but through slight changes in dress and mannerisms, Marshall inhabits each of the performers.
“I just sort of do a little movement like Amy Winehouse and people recognize it,” she said.
The performance will be casual and interactive, Marshall said, with audience requests welcomed. During the show she’ll be looking in the crowd for the sexiest man on Vancouver Island to volunteer. For what, exactly, remains a surprise.
Marshall will reveal her new Thunderdome coat as she performs “We Don’t Need Another Hero,” from the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, in which Turner also acted.
“The people are just hungry for entertainment like this,” Marshall said.
Tickets for the April 5 show are available at the Langford Legion, by phone at 250-478-8365 or at brownpapertickets.com.
