Arts Around: Rollin seeks 2015 entries

The Community Arts Council is seeking artists who would like to put their names forward for the 2015 Days with the Arts Tour.

The committee is getting an early start with its call for interest. This two-day event only happens every other year and is a large fundraiser for the Community Arts Council.

If you are interested, please call the Rollin Art centre for more information at 250-724-3412.

Escapes with landscapes

The Rollin Art Centre’s current art exhibit is with local landscape/seascape artist Dianna, who showcases her collection of landscapes and seascapes in oils.

Originally from England, Dianna and her husband moved to Port Alberni five years ago. “Relocating to such a beautiful place inspires me,” she says.

Join her for refreshments in the gallery on Saturday, March 15 from 1-3 p.m.

Urgent need for books

Book donations for the Community Arts Council’s annual book sale are down from prior years. The book sale is swiftly approaching — sale day is May 10 at Echo Centre.

Books, DVDs, CDs and gently used puzzles can be dropped off in the wooden bin under the stairs at the Rollin Art Centre during opening hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Volunteers cannot accept National Geographic magazines, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books or textbooks.

Historical talk on 4-H club

The Alberni District Historical Society will be hosting speakers from the 4-H Club at their meeting on Thursday, March 20. This is the 100th anniversary of the 4-H movement in BC, and the 60th year in the Alberni Valley.

Members past and present will share their stories. Learn more about this and other aspects of local history at public meetings and by visiting the Archives open every Tuesday and Thursday.

This special presentation in the museum at 7 p.m. is free and open to all.  For more information contact Meg at 250-724-4855.

Thanks for the glass jars

Thank you to everyone for the donations of glass jars and milk cartons for the Celebration of Lights Festival next year. We now have plenty for the students’ lanterns and regretfully cannot accept any more.
