Folk, blues rock Char’s Landing next week
Lindsay May is an acoustic guitar and mandolin wielding songstress from a tiny town in the Shuswap.
Critics liken her folk roots and alt-country tone to a mix of k.d. lang, Kathleen Edwards, Alison Krauss and Lucinda Williams. Praised for “her unique phrasing and distinctive smoky tone,” May’s live performance skills keep getting her some prime gigs—including opening for Valdy and Shari Ulrich among others.
Port Alberni music aficionados will get a chance to hear May for themselves on Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 8–10 p.m. at Char’s Landing.
May has also been a serious songwriter for more than a decade, and the accolades are piling up for her prowess with prose. She was a finalist at the Kerrville New Folk Festival—all about songwriting—in Texas in 2012, and recently produced enough material to record and produce two albums at once.
Advance tickets are $12 (seniors $10) and available at Gayle’s Fashions and the Rollin Arts Centre (cash/cheque). Out-of-towners can e-mail email@example.com.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Drop-ins add $3 at the door. For more information, please call 250-730-1636.
