Dickens and tea in Qualicum Bay
Come to Qualicum Bay for a Charles Dickens Afternoon Cream Tea and stay for top-notch dance talent this Saturday.
The event is a joint fundraiser for the Lighthouse Community Theatre project and the Parksville Ballet School (PBS) Dance 2 Disney Performance Group.
The afternoon includes a local craft fair, cream tea accompanied by the reading of A Christmas Carol, complimented by songs and dance by the Dance 2 Disney team.
The dancers are part of a PBS intensive dance program, and many of them act in local theatre productions and compete at local dance festivals.
They are fundraising for a trip to Los Angeles next year where they will be performing and taking part in workshops like one on auditioning, with a Disney casting agent.
The craft fair begins at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Lighthouse Community Hall and includes vendors Epicure and Avon as well as wares created by local artists and artisans.
At 2 p.m. the cream tea will be served as David Matthews reads A Christmas Carol. Matthews starred in the Bard to Broadway summer productions Anne of Green Gables and Hello Dolly.
The event runs to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $12 in advance from Cranky Dog Music in Parksville, The Shoe Inn in Qualicum Beach, and Georgia Park Store and the Salish Sea Market in Bowser.
Tickets will be $15 at the door.
