OSO brings holiday classic to Okanagan stages

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra brings one of the most popular holiday classics, Messiah, to Valley stages this month. This traditional concert is a guarantee to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

“The magic of the chorus working together with our guest artists and our symphony musicians will be a performance that will make the audience want to stand up and sing. Knowing  this, we’ve included a sing-along performance in Kelowna as a great way for everyone to join in together as we get into the holiday spirit,” comments Rosemary Thomson, music director of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

“The OSO Chorus has been rehearsing since August," she said, "and their enthusiasm on stage will be motivation for our audience and have everyone leaving the theatre excited to spend the holidays with friends and family.”

Handel’s Messiah is renowned as one of the greatest and most popular works of all time. A wonderful quartet of soloists including Stephanie Nakagawa, Lynne McMurtry, Jason Ragan and Gordon Bintner all with ties to the Okanagan will perform on stage and join the more than 50 individuals in the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra Chorus along with our professional orchestra musicians. A collaboration as large as this will fill the stage with enthusiasm in the music. By turns contemplative and glorious, this is a well-loved tradition guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Kelowna performances of Messiah are at the Kelowna Community Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20, with a sing-along performance at 2 p.m. on Dec. 21.

Messiah will also be presented Dec. 19 at the Cleland Community Theatre in Penticton and Dec. 22 at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre.
