Cowichan Theatre goes Wylde for Valentine's Day
An icon in loud music is coming to the Cowichan Theatre — quietly.
Zakk Wylde — a legend in metal music for his work as Ozzy Osborne's guitarist and with his own Black Label Society band — is coming to Cowichan on Valentine's Day.
But instead of the blitzkrieg high-volume thrash Wylde is best known for, this Vancouver Island-exclusive date will feature a more introspective Wylde, in story-telling mode on acoustic guitar.
According to a release from the Cowichan Theatre, An Evening With Zakk Wylde is part of a solo 13-city tour across Canada featuring intimate versions of some of Black Label Society's most popular songs, as well as songs from Wylde's best-selling solo album Book of Shadows and Southern rock band Pride & Glory.
"This is a special thank you to my Canadian fans for making "Ain't No Sunshine" top 20 – TOP 20 people," said Wylde. " I wanted to do more intimate shows in a great country, especially in some cities where you're already going a bit crazy.
"You can take a song that you've played thousands of times and rearrange it, and all of a sudden it's something totally fresh. The attitude of the songs doesn't change when we play them acoustically–the tunes are gritty regardless."
He will also be sharing tales from his book Bringing Metal to the Children: The Complete Berzerker's Guide to WorldDomination.
"(It's) slamming. I mean, we're having a good time," Wylde told Mayhem Music Magazine. "Yeah, I mean it's definitely, it's hysterical. I mean, it's a Black Label family dysfunctional gathering. And, but seriously, it's Black Label storyteller of Doom meets George Carlin meets Black Label on steroids. So, no, it's a good time man."
Limited edition VIP tickets including a meet-and-greet are on sale now, with general release tickets available on Friday. Call the Cowichan Theatre at 250-748-7529.
