Singer Ria Jade has rallied other young artists to perform at a benefit concert in Maple Ridge to raise fund for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Titled Breaking Barriers, every dollar raised at the event will go to the Canadian Red Cross.

“We are so excited to get these young children to perform and share their music and talent for a very good cause ,” said Ria’s mom, Jackie Diy, who is helping her organize the event.

“We hope to get the funds soon enough so we can prevent more people from further suffering.”

Typhoon Haiyan devastated a large swat of the central Philippines at the beginning of November, killing more than 4,000 people.

According to the United Nations, more than 900,000 people have been displaced by the storm, perhaps the most powerful ever to strike land, and nearly 12 million people have been affected in some way.

The federal government will also contribute matching amounts to its Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund for every dollar Canadians give to registered charities up to Dec. 9.

Artists set to perform at the event include Ria Jade, Frankie Cena, Jada McKenzie-Moore, DaniElle Severinski, Zenia Marshall, Darren Exley, Glisha Dela Cruz, Louis Luzuka, PNT Singing Idol Finalists and Northern Rain.

• Breaking Barriers plays at the Open Door Church, 11391 Dartford Street in Maple Ridge at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. For tickets and more information, call S. Bradley Christianson- Barker at 604-779-7229 or Jackie Diy at 604-466-5992.
