Submissions sought for new exhibit at The Reach
In recognition of the 90th anniversary of the drainage of Sumas Lake, The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford is calling for submissions for an upcoming exhibit.
The work selected will form an exhibit titled “Drain: An Exhibition Organized by Young Contemporaries,” which will be shown alongside the travelling exhibition “Clash: Conflict and its Consequences” from the National Gallery of Canada.
These exhibits will run from Jan. 23 to March 30.
“Drain” will include works that touch on themes of – but are not limited to – power, progress and environment.
The concept of Drain is to visually consider the wider implications of a major undertaking like a mass drainage, and to create a dialogue around how such projects affect communities culturally, politically and environmentally, in historical and contemporary view.
Submissions must include: the Young Contemporaries of The Reach program membership ID number, a cover letter, an artist’s statement (maximum 250 words) and images in high-resolution JPG format.
Submissions must be sent by Dec. 1 to Gabe Kirkley, special events and marketing assistant at The Reach. Artists will be notified of the selection of works by Dec. 15.
