Teens can create own zine
Youth aged 13 to 18 are invited to a free Creating a Zine workshop with artist Keith Langergraber, on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Kelowna Art Gallery.
The evening will begin with a tour of the exhibition Keith Langergraber: Theatre of the Exploding Sun led by Langergraber.
Following, there will be a hands-on drawing activity, and an exploration of zines, comic books and storyboards.
So what is a zine? Zines are kind of like a magazine but with a twist. They are usually non-commercial, non-professional documents. Zines, often self-published by the writer, or artist, usually reflect their personal interests and passions.
Typically, zines are made using collage techniques and are then photocopied which allows many copies to be made and distributed at a low cost. Zines are a great way to explore your passion and creativity, and a great way to share your ideas with friends and strangers.
The Creating a Zine workshop is free and space is limited to 15 students. Call the gallery at 250-762-2226 to register.
The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water St. in Kelowna. For more information about current exhibitions, public programming or special events, visit the KAG online at www.kelownaartgallery.com.
