The art of waiting
Recently, seven of Full Circle Art Collective's (FCAC) members participated in a three year collaborative project titled In Wait. Inspired by the story of the stoic Penelope in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, the project has resulted in the creation of over 200 artworks.
On Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Thursday Artist Talk speaker series at the Surrey Art Gallery, Brigitte Potter-Mael will introduce FCAC, speak about the artists’ work environments as well as the techniques/skills each employ in their creative processes, and Hannamari Jalovaara will describe the In Wait project. Admission is free.
The In Wait project is a contemplative response to an ordinary part of life: the act of waiting. While some of the 12” x 12” multi-media pieces were made individually, the majority were passed on to others to complete, involving both the risk of “doing and undoing” an image. In Wait is scheduled to travel throughout BC beginning in February 2014.
Full Circle Art Collective is a group of professional visual artists based in Vancouver. Its members work in a wide variety of media, including printmaking, painting, and mixed media. All works are original. The group’s members participate actively in national and international exhibitions. Their works can be found in both private and public collections in Canada and abroad. There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the Surrey talk. The event concludes by 9 p.m. Refreshments are provided.
