ARTS IN BRIEF: Open casting call, library artwork

Kids aged five to 15 are invited to audition for a school touring production put on by a Coquitlam theatrical company.

Theatrix will host an open casting call for Flat Stanley Jr. — a beloved children’s book that has become part of the elementary school curriculum — on Jan. 12.

Those accepted into the show will be required to attend rehearsals on Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Dogwood Pavilion (624 Poirier St., Coquitlam).

The performance will happen at schools in early May. To register for the audition, visit theatrixyoutheatre.com.

PMPL ART

Watercolour and acrylic paintings by Rosa Chang (at right) will be hung on the walls of the Port Moody Public Library next month.

A former elementary school teacher, Chang has a master’s degree in design and taught industrial design to university students.

Currently, she works with SUCCESS to plan volunteer art classes for children; as well, Chang offers free art classes to children from low-income families, through BC Housing.

WINTER AT ECC

Pick up a paintbrush or a pencil next month as Coquitlam’s Evergreen Cultural Centre hosts a series of art classes for children and adults.

Phone registration is now open for classes, after-school programs and workshops, starting early January, at the Pinetree Way facility.

And new to the winter lineup is a workshop that allows participants to do yoga in the art gallery.

Among the classes are:

• Creative Kids: Mondays, Jan 14 to March 11 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for ages seven to 11

• Clay Creations: Tuesdays, Jan. 15 to March 5 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for ages seven to 11

• Sculpture, Masks and Puppets: Wednesdays, Jan. 16 to March 6 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for ages six to nine

• How to Write an Artist Statement: Jan. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 16 and up (no cost)
