This Saturday, in support of the Campbell River Hospice Society, Obvious Entertainment will be presenting Kuba Oms at the Paramount Music Hall.

If you haven’t heard of Kuba Oms, you just may want to come out on Saturday evening to listen to or even dance the evening away to his music.

Born in Victoria, Kuba knows how to make people dance. His single “Electrolove” was a summer hit in Canada and he was a finalist in the 2011 International Songwriting Competition.

At the age of 15, he was playing covers at school and around bonfires; he then progressed to singing soul classics by Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder.

“That’s how I really learned how to sing,” says Kuba. “Covering those songs was quite challenging. I am drawn to that music of the late 60s and early 70s as there was often a feeling of desperation.”

Kuba then formed Velvet, an experimental improve unit, which sold out every week and rose to legendary status.

Opening for Kuba Oms will be Campbell River’s own Who is Barbosa.  Who is Barbosa are

the 2012 “Battle of the Bands” winners, and they play everything from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matchbox 20 and Jimi Hendrix to Stone Temple Pilots as well as their own original songs.

Following Who is Barbosa will be Fighting for Yesterday.  Fighting for Yesterday is a Courtenay-based rocking band made up of lead singer - Bree Blake (with her own unique, raspy vocals); lead guitarist/back up vocalist – Shane Gubersky; rhythm guitarist/back up vocalist – John Doucet; bass guitarist – Cody Love; and drummer - Mark Holley.

Come out and join in on a great evening of music and support the Campbell River Hospice Society.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.  Tickets can be purchased through the Campbell River Hospice Society; Paramount Music Hall; Best Buy Liquor Store or at Bop City (Comox).
