Choral adjudicator a well-known vocalist

Chilliwack Lions Club Music & Dance Festival is gearing up for its annual showcase of talent from Chilliwack and across the Lower Mainland in early February 2013.

Organizers have announced that the choral adjudicator for the 2013 Music & Dance Festival will be Allison Girvan.

Girvan’s musical journey includes experience as a professional singer, arranger, director, clinician and adjudicator. She has been a soloist on recordings and in performance with ensembles including musica intima, Elektra Women’s Choir, The Vancouver Chamber Choir, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and as a vocalist for studio sessions for radio, TV and feature film.

She has worked extensively with Celtic tenor John McDermott on recordings, international tours, and the PBS specials, A Time to Remember, and Sharing Christmas. Her 2007 debut solo cd, Resonance, combines her love of world music and her love of languages.

She now lives in Nelson, B.C. where she continues to record for television and feature film scores, and directs the Nelson Youth Choir Program, including corazón : a 60-voice teen ensemble who have gained a reputation for their world music repertoire and focus on social justice and were named Nelson’s official cultural ambassadors in 2009.

The Choral Division of the Festival runs February 25 and 26 at Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Registration deadline for Choral is January 20.

“We look forward to welcoming Allison to our festival and invite participants interested in competing to visit our website for more details.”
