Have guitar, will travel. That could be Comox Valley musician Luke Blu Guthrie’s mantra.

Armed only with an acoustic guitar and some killer talent, Guthrie will touch down at Char’s Landing in Port Alberni on Friday, March 23.

After consistent gigging throughout the south coast, Guthrie has sharpened some new songs and stories and is promoting his second independent release within the last year.

Last year was

kind to Guthrie and found him playing to ever growing crowds of  fans who have been intrigued by his thoughtful lyrics, soulful guitar and vocal style.

The February 2012 independent release of Roots and Blu has already seen significant radio play and is gaining momentum.

This recording finds Guthrie in the company of an unusual mix of Vancouver Island-based talent. Jim Guthrie (bass) is Ontario born and has a wide musical history that includes forays into funk and sojourns into soul. Jim Guthrie’s playing was an anchor in the live sessions that took place during the making of this record.

Also featured prominently on the record are the dobro talents of raconteur Ari Rome. Rome is a staple in many scenes throughout the coast of Canada and the U.S, and his style is instantly pleasing to the soul.

Luke Guthrie takes pride in the fact that Roots and Blu is locally grown and harvested and he is looking forward to bringing his unique style of roots-based R&B to Port Alberni for the first time.

Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts a 7 p.m. at Char’s Landing.
