Virtuoso guitarist returns to Bowen
Michael Waters returns to Bowen on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. with a performance at the Gallery at Artisan Square. Since Michael began to play publicly in 2005, he has taken his new style of guitarwork to shows in Paris, New York, and as far as Uganda. Using an incredibly seasoned acoustic guitar and minimal effects, he is able to weave and turn sounds together in a way usually heard from a full band. The presentation is classical, yet the music itself defies existing styles – this is not jazz, blues, folk or celtic. A young person once expressed his amazement that he was hearing ‘psychedelic chill on an acoustic guitar’ and that moniker stuck, so Michael describes this new genre as Acoustic Psychedelic Chill.
Michael Waters has grown a strong west coast following through performances in churches and theatres over the last five years. After 33 years playing guitar as a spiritual practice, his 2004 encounter with the medicine traditions of the Amazon triggered a complete shift in his approach to music and non-stop composing. This fall tour is in support the release of his third solo recording.
Tickets are available at Phoenix and at the door for $20. More info at www.ladybirdmusic.com.
