Bailey lifts Islanders to overtime win over falling Leafs

By Steve Keating

TORONTO (Reuters) - Josh Bailey scored with 43 seconds remaining in overtime as the New York Islanders resisted a spirited Toronto Maple Leafs rally to claim a 4-3 victory on Monday.

With the contest heading toward a shootout, Bailey blasted a close range shot past Jonas Gustavsson to end a seven game road trip on a winning note and send the wilting Leafs to their sixth loss in seven games.

The Islanders broke open the game midway through the second period with three goals in just over three minutes from Jeff Tambellini, Matt Moulson and Sean Bergenheim to take charge 3-0.

Philke Kessel dragged one back late in the second period for Toronto before third period goals from Wayne Primeau and Niklas Hagman forced the game into overtime, though the rally was not enough for the Leafs who remain bottom of the NHL standings.
