Mountie sues bosses
By Tim Petruk | November 29, 2008A Kamloops Mountie is suing two of his superiors for what he calls “malicious, abusive and humiliating” treatment in the workplace.
According to documents filed with B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops, RCMP Cpl. Chris Clarke is seeking damages as a result of his treatment at the hands of Sgt. Steve Gehl and Sgt. Richard Matte.
Clarke served with the Kamloops RCMP’s forensic identification section until March 2007, when he went on medical leave.
Court documents show his leave is due to a psychological illness created by stress and anxiety.
“Matte and Gehl subjected the plaintiff to a malicious, abusive and humiliating course of harassment,” the document of claim reads.
The documents allege the abuse has been ongoing since 2002.
“Matte and Gehl have engaged in repeated incidents of verbal abuse, uttering profanities against, laughing against, shouting at, arbitrary treatment of and singling out the plaintiff,” it reads.
The statement includes an allegation Gehl and Matte filed a report against Clarke in November 2006, alleging he mishandled fingerprint evidence at a crime scene.
The report resulted in Clarke having his certification revoked.
The documents show Clarke is seeking general damages, aggravated, punitive and exemplary damages, interest and costs.
