Seeing both sides of: Gates on private forestland
November 30, 2008The case for
This is private property. Any public access on it is through the goodwill of the property owner, who has shown an exceptional amount of goodwill over the years.
That generosity has been repaid with vandalized equipment, stripped trees and dumped garbage.
Would you continue to allow open access to your land, or would you take steps to protect yourself?
The case against
The back country of British Columbia is a treasure that should be enjoyed by the people of British Columbia.
The people who have abused the back country owned by TimberWest and other forest companies are the sad exception to the rule and their actions should not penalize the many.
TimberWest is attempting to sell land holdings. We hope access is not a card being played in that effort.
